KSR Today: What's next for Kentucky football?

Welp, that sucked.
Kentucky football is reaching a very, very awkward position. There is no explaining a loss to Vanderbilt, especially against this era of Vanderbilt that hadn’t seen an SEC win in its last 26 attempts. The UK offense continued to look putrid on Saturday while Brad White’s defense finally broke after bending for a lot of the season.
So, what’s next? Are there any questions that can be answered before the offseason? Kentucky is still sitting on a 6-4 record — 10 years ago, that was a reason to flood State Street. But that’s just not where this program is anymore. Beating Vanderbilt at home is a requirement. Losing in that fashion is, frankly, an embarrassment.
There are still two more games left on the 2022 schedule, but up next is No. 1 ranked Georgia in just six days. Expectations are at a season low. The ‘Cats will then close the season off against in-state rival Louisville. Both games will be played at Kroger Field, but the case scenario at this point feels like not getting completely trashed by the Bulldogs while finding a way to beat the Cardinals. A 7-5 finish would still be acceptable, but not anything close to preseason expectations.
The most troubling aspect of the current state of the program revolves around where they go next. Is Rich Scangarello the answer as the play caller? Better yet, who is even going to throw the ball for this team next season? Can the offensive line improve and improve quickly? These questions didn’t matter as much when the team was winning. As this season continues to spiral in the wrong direction, they become a lot tougher to ignore.
Enough negativity from me though. If your mind is well enough, check out all of KSR’s postgame content from Saturday, along with everything else going on in the world of UK Athletics for Sunday.
