KSR Travel Guide: Texas A&M

The first SEC road trip of the 2015 college basketball season is upon us, and it's a long one. Nine hundred seventy-two miles from Lexington, to be exact. I hope you have an aux cord or satellite radio. Tonight, as we pack our bags for the long journey (Ed note: We're not really going) I would like to share with you our travel guide for the weekend. Follow it if you'd like, or roll the dice with your own adventure. It's your world. *****

If you're not flying...

You're going to want to be on the road soon. I'd suggest tomorrow so you can enjoy the drive down without being in a rush. There are plenty of cool things to see along the way, like the Dinosaur Museum in Cave City before you leave Kentucky or the many places that serve barbecue once you hit the southwestern part of Tennessee and on into Arkansas and Texas. May I recommend Memphis as a great place to spend a night to break up the long haul. KSR spent the night in Memphis on our way down to Dallas for the Baylor game last year and we were told to quit being cordial and accepting drinks from the guy with the dreadlocks because he's a known drug lord and mass murder in town. He sure was generous, though. Sometimes I wonder where Flener and I would be today, if even alive, had we accepted his invitation to his after party. Eh, he's probably in prison. Moving on...

If you are flying...

Congrats. This trip got a lot easier.

If you're in town Friday afternoon...

There are plenty of fun and exciting things to see and do around College Station. Maybe you'd like to visit the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum; it's right there in the middle of the action, waiting to show off all kinds of interesting facts and old photos of our 41st President. I've never been, but I assume there are lots of books, too. If dusty documents and the Dewey Decimal system aren't your thing, take your credit card to historic downtown Bryan and get your shoppin' on, girl. But be careful: the streets are lined with antique shops and boutiques, not Nordstrom and H&M. Still not satisfied? Grab a beer and see where that takes you. Beer always knows what's best on away games.

If you haven't booked a hotel...

You should do that. Priceline, HotWire, CraigsList, get on it.

If you need tickets...

Tickets are still available through the Texas A&M ticket site and Ticketmaster.com. That guy at GuyOnTheCornerTickets.com has some very affordable options as well. You can get in the building for as low as fifteen bucks.

If you get hungry, and you will get hungry...

Try one of these popular spots: Dixie Chicken - The undisputed heavyweight champion in the Texas A&M food recommendations. It has its own Wikipedia page and is known for cold beer, great food and a live rattlesnake on site. Hullabaloo Diner - I opened its UrbanSpoon page and saw a photo of fries covered in white gravy and shredded cheese next to the Redneck Philly Steak sandwich and that's the only proof I needed. Now I'm STARVING. Koppe Bridge Bar & Grille - It claims to have the "Best Burger In Town For Over 20 Years," so it's either serving really good burgers or it's a liar. Your call. It seems to have lots of awards.

If you see Johnny Manziel, and you will see Johnny Manziel...

Have your camera ready because there's a very good chance he's going to do/say something stupid. It's the offseason for the Browns, so he's there.

If you like to party in basements with cheap booze and body odor...

Do whatever you can to find this place: Although I wouldn't recommend it. That's how people get pregnant.

If this court hurts your eyes, you should probably stay home...

Or go and stare at the cheerleaders.... Safe travels, y'all.
