High school boys’ basketball district tournaments across the state of Kentucky wrapped up on Friday, which means regional tournament action begins this week. The winners of the 16 regions will gather in Rupp Arena for the Sweet 16 on March 20-23 to crown one state champion.

Assuming the favorites win out, potential blockbuster regional matchups loom, including:

  • No. 1 Great Crossing vs. No. 2 Lexington Catholic in the 11th Region finals. Get to Paul Laurence Dunbar early for this one!
  • No. 3 Newport vs. No. 4 Covington Catholic in the 9th Region finals.
  • City rivals No. 6 St. Xavier vs. No. 9 Trinity in the 7th Region finals.
  • No. 5 Lyon County (led by Kentucky commit Travis Perry) vs. No. 12 Henderson County in the 2nd Region finals
  • And much, much more.
