KSR's Kentucky WBB Blue-White Preseason Event Takeaways
Even though the Blue-White Preseason Event wasn’t televised, KSR was on site for the festivities, so we have some takeaways for you regarding the women’s team’s part of the night.
The time for talk is over
Finally, we got our first glimpse of game action. Well, sort of. The team scrimmaged against the male practice players, which seemed a bit odd, but that’s just a small part of what occurred.
Kenny Brooks and his staff were on the sidelines as he walked around with a clipboard in his hand. He pulled players aside and coached them up. After an offseason of people (us at KSR, really) telling you about wanting to see this team play, we finally saw it.
You can tell Georgia Amoore was an All-American last season
Right off the get go, Georgia Amoore looked like the All-American point guard that she was last season. To start the night, the team participated in a shooting drill, and Amoore found the bottom of the net more often than not.
However, when we actually got to scrimmage time, she turned up the heat. In just seven minutes of action, Amoore put up six points (3-4 shooting) and tallied three assists to her name. As the conductor of the offense, she was excellent. If no one was open, she’d get open. If someone was, she found them.
Clara Strack, Clara Silva continue to impress
Kentucky’s two centers, Clara Strack and Clara Silva, were impressive during the scrimmage. Strack put up eight points while shooting 4-5 from the field, and she also managed to record three rebounds and two assists in her 10 minutes of play. The team also ran a set where Strack was on the perimeter, and she passed it to Teonni Key who cut to the rim following a pick. So, that’s nice to see.

As for Silva, she also scored eight points on 4-5 shooting, and she got one rebound and two assists in her eight minutes of action. On top of that, her turn-around fadeaway is practically unguardable. Her talent may need some work still, but she’s got a lot of it.
Cassidy Rowe has improved tremendously
As a Kentucky kid, Cassidy Rowe has poured her heart and soul into this program, and it’s evident in her improvement.
In the shooting drill, she was aboslutely lights out, and it carried over to the scrimmage where she went 2-2 (1-1 3PT) from the field while scoring five points in her eight minutes of time. When Amoore is out, Brooks is going to need someone to step up, and Rowe seems to be doing that to perfection at this point.
Teonni Key living up to the former Top 10 recruit hype
Coming out of high school, Teonni Key was a Top 10 recruit. Now, we’re starting to see that.
In the summer, she was praised as one of Kentucky’s most improved players. In the scrimmage, she went a flawless 4-4 from the field while reeling in two rebounds and a steal in just seven minutes of action. Plus, in the shooting drill, she hit threes at a consistent pace.
Overall, there was a lot of positive to take away from the night.
