Lakers trade Anthony Davis to Mavericks for Luka Doncic in blockbuster trade
Has there ever been a more stunning trade in NBA history than this?
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Los Angeles Lakers are trading former Kentucky center Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for All-Star guard Luka Doncic. Those are the juicy details of this three-team trade, which also includes the Utah Jazz.
To say this transaction came out of nowhere is an understatement. There were no whispers of this at all from any media outlets. Longtime NBA reporter Marc Stein says this deal “immediately ranks as one of the most stunning trade thunderbolts in NBA history.” Absolutely stunning.

Davis, who was named to his 10th All-Star Game on Thursday, was having an excellent season for the Lakers. The 6-foot-10 big man was averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 34.3 minutes per outing. He’s shooting 52.8 percent from the field and 78.8 percent from the line. Los Angeles is currently in fifth place in the Western Conference with a 27-19, but they’ll swap Davis for Doncic, who will pair alongside LeBron James.
Now, Davis is headed to the Mavericks where he’ll team up next to All-Star guard Kyrie Irving. Dallas is ninth in the Western Conference with a 26-23 record. I am still stunned.
