Lamont Butler named SEC Player of the Week after dropping 33 points on Louisville
Lamont Butler is being rewarded for his near-perfect performance against Louisville
On Monday afternoon, the Southeastern Conference announced that Butler has been named the league’s Co-Player of the Week for his 33-point game in Kentucky’s 93-85 win over Louisville this past Saturday. He shares the honor with Auburn’s Johni Broome, who went for 21 points and 20 rebounds in a win over Ohio State.
Butler’s career-high 33 points against Louisville came on a perfect 10-10 shooting from the field, including a 6-6 clip from long range. He also chipped in six assists and three rebounds in his 32 minutes played after taking the previous two games off due to injury. He was also named the game’s MVP. The only “negative” about Butler’s impressive outing was his 7-12 mark from the free throw line.
“Unbelievable credit to him. My goodness what an incredible — Lamont Butler just gave us one of the all-time greatest performances in the history of his super special game,” Kentucky head coach Mark Pope said of Butler postgame. “All-time. The numbers back it up. The way he came into it backs it up… I’m so proud of him.”

Since 1996-97, the San Diego State transfer is the only Division I player to score at least 33 points, make every field goal attempt, and record at least six assists in a single game. Butler joins Andrew Carr as Kentucky’s two SEC Player of the Week winners so far this season. Carr received the award after posting 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists in a win over Duke.
The SEC Freshman of the Week honors went to a former Kentucky commit. Arkansas point guard Boogie Fland, who followed John Calipari to Fayetteville, earned the recognition after averaging 18.0 points, 8.0 assists, 3.5 steals, and 3.0 rebounds in two wins last week for the Razorbacks.
