Lamont Butler will showcase his skills in front of NBA scouts later this week.

Butler was listed as one of 45 prospects who received invitations to the 2025 NBA G League Elite Camp in Chicago from May 9-11, it was announced Monday. This three-day event precedes the NBA Draft Combine, also held in Chicago from May 11-18, where players will have a chance to prove themselves in front of NBA personnel and potentially secure a spot in the actual Combine.

Butler is one of three Wildcats invited to the G League Elite Camp. Former Kentucky center Amari Williams and incoming point guard Jaland Lowe (a transfer from Pitt) were also invited. All three can play their way into the NBA Draft Combine with good showings this weekend. Additionally, UK’s Koby Brea and Otega Oweh have already received invitations to the Combine.

After spending his first four college seasons at San Diego State, including an appearance in the 2023 national championship game, Butler elected to spend his final season in Lexington. As Kentucky’s starting point guard, the 6-foot-2 native of California averaged 11.4 points, 4.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per outing — all ranking as career-highs outside of steals. He started all 27 games he appeared in, shooting 49.8 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from deep, and 73.5 percent from the field.

Unfortunately, a nagging shoulder injury he suffered in mid-January threw his season off course. Butler sporadically missed nine total games for the Wildcats due to the constant pain. Otherwise, he’d likely be higher on NBA Draft Big Boards as a defensive-minded guard who showed he can operate an offense at an efficient level.

But that’s exactly what these G League Elite Camps are for — to prove your value. Butler and his fellow Wildcats can do just that later this week in Chicago as he looks to earn himself a spot in the NBA Draft Combine, which begins Sunday.
