Lane Kiffin is not running short on charisma, or condiments, at SEC Media Days.

The outspoken Ole Miss head coach nearly caused a riot when the one-time Tennessee coach returned to Neyland Stadium last fall. After a call did not go the Vols’ way late in the fourth quarter, Tennessee fans erupted. Debris flew from every corner of the garbage truck workers’ convention toward Kiffin. It was a memorable first game back in Knoxville.

Despite the brief delay, Ole Miss was able to hang on for a 31-26 win en route to an appearance in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.

A variety of items were found on the field turf at Neyland Stadium. ESPN cameras captured a golf ball and a bottle of mustard. One LSU fan at SEC Media Days was inspired to bring a mustard bottle to SEC Media Days. While walking into the College Football Hall of Fame, Lane Kiffin put his John Hancock on the Publix brand of yellow mustard.

“I did sign a mustard bottle. That was the first guy to come up, which I think he had an Alabama shirt on, so I was a little confused there. I have signed a lot of mustard bottles and golf balls, which normally I haven’t,” said Kiffin said. “It’s been a unique off-season.”

It’s not the first jab he’s thrown at Tennessee this offseason. When the Vols came to Oxford for a baseball series, he threw out the first pitch… with a golf ball. The Rebels were promptly swept.

“We got swept by Tennessee, didn’t play well. Everybody thought it was my fault. I had a plan,” Lane Kiffin shared Monday. “I wanted our guys to stay humble, not play very well, then we’d go win the national championship in baseball. I’d like to say that was a plan. All the Tennessee fans that were all excited about sweeping us, there was a plan.”

It worked to perfection. Ole Miss won the College World Series and Tennessee fans are still drinking Volun-tears.
