Last night wasn't the first time a Pat Adams call decided a game

With an exhausted team and an emaciated front court, Kentucky somehow seemed to be poised for victory at the end of overtime against Texas AM. But with 9 seconds remaining, Isaac Humphries blocked a shot and collected a rebound that may have sealed the outcome. In excitement, he spiked the ball with lack-luster velocity. To the rational observer, this was an understandable reaction from a kid having the best game of his career. To Pat Adams, it was a chance to insert himself into the game's outcome. Jay Bilas and other have rightly criticized Pat for his technical foul call last night, but it's not the first time Adams made a questionable, game-deciding decision. In fact, it happened as recently as last March. Last season in the SEC tournament, South Carolina led Ole Miss 57-54 in the game's closing seconds. Frank Martin told his squad to foul Ole Miss to prevent a three-pointer. However, the referees didn't blow the whistle until Pat Adams called a foul on an Ole Miss three pointer, which resulted in a four point play. And it didn't end there. As USC attempted a desperation heave as time expired, Adams called another foul on Ole Miss. USC went on to make both free throws and win the game. Ultimately, it's hard to blame losses on refs. There are hundreds of other factors that affect a game's outcome. But when a person decides to loosen their whistle in the final seconds, it ruins the fun for everyone. Come on, Pat. Do less.
