Late Texas A&M Three-Pointer Takes Down Florida in SEC Tournament
What. A. Game.
The noon slate of Thursday’s conference tournament games seemingly all ended in thrilling fashion. The most surprisingly dramatic game was in Tampa. Hassan Diarra delivered a dagger, drilling a three-pointer from the top of the key with less than a second remaining in overtime to send Florida back home to Gainesville after suffering an 83-80 loss.
Diarra’s heroics saved the Aggies from a devastating defeat. Texas A&M led by 11 with 3:17 remaining when the Gators stormed back, finishing regulation on a 17-5 run. Mike White’s team had all of the momentum, playing in front of a friendly crowd in their home state, yet could not escape with a win, likely ending their season without an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Henry Coleman led A&M with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. A&M advances to play Auburn in the opening game of the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals Friday at noon on the SEC Network. Despite an eight-game losing streak in SEC play, Buzz Williams’ program has some life and the chance to dance on Selection Sunday by playing spoiler against the Tigers tomorrow.
