The final week of the NFL season is here. This year season finale means even more to the Big Blue Nation. Liam Coen is wrapping up his first year as the Rams’ offensive coordinator. Upon conclusion of the season, we expect the University of Kentucky to announce he is returning to call plays for the wildcats in 2023.

That’s the expectation, however, nothing is official. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Dec. 9 Coen will return to Lexington to be the offensive coordinator. When Sean McVay was later asked about the potential move, he said it had been discussed between the two, but confirmed that Coen would finish the season with the Rams.

The finesse McVay displayed in that first press conference has since been mimicked and mirrored whenever Coen steps behind a mic. Still, the BBN is on edge. As closing time draws near, anxiety among fans grows. That’s why this Tweet is a load of hot garbage.

Zach Barnett writes for FootballScoop, one of the most trusted and important outlets this time of year. The outlet’s relationship with agents makes them the first to break many coaching moves at all levels in the sport. When FootballScoop says a Liam Coen decision is not final, it raises eyebrows.

Here’s the problem: FootballScoop isn’t saying Liam Coen is undecided. That’s straight from the horse’s mouth. The website aggregated a quote Coen shared at today’s press conference with Rams’ reporters.

Of course that’s what he said. Did anyone expect him to say, “Yeah, I’m taking the first flight of LAX Monday morning. I can’t wait to get outta here. Spring practice starts in six weeks!”? No.

In order to do things “the right way,” a line uttered often throughout this process, it requires Coen to fulfill his duties by saying all of the right things until it’s time to depart. To act like today’s quote is anything but a Nothing-Burger is ridiculous. Next week the University of Kentucky will announce Liam Coen is officially the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator for the 2023 season. Plan accordingly.

More Evidence Liam Coen is Running it Back

Not only is Liam Coen on his way out of Los Angeles, Sean McVay may soon follow. Last year McVay could have left the Rams on a high note as a Super Bowl Champion. He entertained multiple lucrative TV offers, potentially following in the steps of his mentor, Jon Gruden, but ultimately decided to return to the Rams. It sounds like McVay is having second thoughts.

Front Office Sports reports NFL TV partners will once again pursue McVay this offseason. After multiple injuries to star players and the most losses ever by a defending Super Bowl Champ, the timing could be perfect for McVay, leaving Liam Coen without any regrets as he returns to college football.
