Linebacker Jared Casey named to freshman All-American watch list

via UK Athletics
Jared Casey came to Lexington as Mark Stoops’ highest-rated recruit from the 2019 class, and now he’s being recognized as one of the top freshmen in the nation.
The Louisville native has been named to the FWAA 2019 Freshman All-American Team and Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Watch List. Only 74 FBS freshmen – 24 from the SEC – made the cut.
The 6-foot-2, 224-pound outside linebacker was a consensus 4-star prospect and one of the top 20 linebackers in the country. After initially committing to Oregon, Casey flipped to the Wildcats last December. He graduated from Ballard High School a semester early in order to enroll at UK last January, which was monumental in preparing him for SEC competition as a freshman.

“I’m really glad I came in early. I got all these reps with the ones and stuff,” Casey said after the Blue/White game. “If I would’ve came in later, I don’t know how things would’ve turned out.”
His hard work is already paying off: Casey finished the Blue/White scrimmage as the White team’s leading tackler (6), in addition to one quarterback hurry. The watch list nod is the first, but hopefully not last, piece of national recognition for the freshman.
