LISTEN: Mark Stoops talks Kentucky-Florida during weekly teleconference

Kentucky football head coach Mark Stoops particpated in his weekly SEC teleconference on Wednesday afternoon. During it, he touched on a few different topics, including the matchup against Florida QB Anthony Richardson and head coach Billy Napier’s offense, an update on UK linebacker Trevin Wallace, and more talk about the Big Blue Wall.
The Wildcats will head down to Gainesville later this week for a ranked contest against No. 12 Florida in the Swamp. The Gators have received a ton of national notoriety over the last few days following an impressive win at home over then-No. 7 Utah. Richardson, who can beat teams with both his arm and legs, will be the primary focus of Kentucky’s defense.
“It’s tough to single out any one thing,” Stoops said about what makes Richardson so special. “Heck, he has a talented arm. I think everyone is gonna say what an athlete he is but the guy can rip it as well. He can throw the football.”
Against Utah, Richardson threw for 168 yards (on 17-24 passing) while running for another 106 yards and three touchdowns on 11 attempts. Kentucky will also have to deal with talented Florida WR Ricky Pearsall, who transferred from Arizona State and recorded 67 yards on four catches in the opener last week.

One of the players Kentucky will rely on to limit Richardson and Pearsall is sophomore linebacker Trevin Wallace. The 2021 All-SEC Freshman Team member missed UK’s win over Miami (OH) due to injury, but Stoops told listeners that Wallace should be ready to go this Saturday.
“With Trevin, he should be good to go,” Stoops said. “He was questionable this last game and we’re gonna try to get him ready to play here.”
