Listen to Matt Jones Dissect the Kentucky Victory over Louisville
It was a thrilling Saturday at Rupp Arena. Kentucky led the whole way, but it always felt close. The Cats and the Cards exchanged big shot after big shot until the dust settled and Kentucky had a 93-85 victory.
Following the win, Matt Jones spoke with Big Blue Nation on the KSR Postgame Show. He wasn’t just blown away by Lamont Butler. Otega Oweh made a few plays that ensured the Cards could not pull off the upset.
“For about 35 minutes, you could have forgotten he was playing,” said Jones. “He actually was out of the game quite a bit more than usual, and then in the last four minutes, he probably makes the three biggest plays in the game. His steal and a dunk was at a crucial time, his ‘and one’ towards the end, his three-pointer. Oweh had eight points in the last four minutes, and Kentucky probably doesn’t win without him.”
It was a high-octane game that also got a little chippy. Even though he’s not exactly sure what all happened, Matt loved seeing the intensity between Kentucky and Louisville.
“It has to be the most aggressive fight with no punching in history… But that’s what you want in a rivalry, you want some aggressiveness, you want to see two teams who really care and I think you had that tonight.”

With the win, Kentucky improved to 10-1 with wins over Duke, Louisville, and Gonzaga. That’s one heck of a start to the Mark Pope era in Lexington.
“It was a great chapter in the rivalry. While both teams I think have had more talent, I’m not sure you’ve had a lot of that have cared as much as the guys did tonight, and I think that’s what made the win special,” said Jones.
