LOOK: 'Historic' Memorial Coliseum is coming along beautifully

Memorial Coliseum’s $82 million renovation has (in large part) been a mystery up until this point. On the outside, it appears that not a whole lot has taken place. Piles of scrap metal and construction equipment are scattered around. At first glance, Memorial just looks the same way it always has.

However, in the latest photos shared by the UK Athletics, we can see that the 74-year-old facility is getting quite the makeover. Even the name, which has always just been Memorial Coliseum, will now seemingly be rebranded to Historic Memorial Coliseum.

Perhaps the biggest change coming to the home of UK women’s basketball is the actual court. Like the new court at Rupp Arena, this court will feature an outline of the state of Kentucky behind the school logo.

Additionally, in the original renderings, the checkerboard pattern was on the sidelines and baselines. On the actual floor, however, it appears it’s just a solid blue (as it should be). Also, instead of “MEMORIAL COLISEUM” being in huge blocky blue letters at the corners, the arena name text will be close to center court.

Take a look for yourself. It’s quite beautiful.
