We’re talking ’bout practice, kind of.

Beginning Wednesday coaches were allowed to work with Kentucky football players on the field for the first time since coronavirus canceled spring practice. Players and coaches have one hour per day (with a maximum of six hours per week) to use a football to practice in a walk-through setting. They’re also allowed one hour of in-person meeting time per day in addition to eight hours a week in the weight room.

For the last month players were simply lifting weights and running sprints under the supervision of the strength coaches, Coach Ed and Coach Hill. They started this week by running and jumping up the big hill at the back of the facility.

In addition to the workouts, coaches can now run players through drills. They aren’t wearing any equipment — aside from cloth masks — but they have put on practice jerseys to run plays on the practice fields outside of the Joe Craft Football Training Facility.

We don’t know exactly what the college football season will look like. As Greg Sankey and officials across the conference debate potential options, the Kentucky Wildcats are preparing as if the season will open Sept. 3 against Eastern Michigan. The official start to preseason practices is less than two weeks away, beginning Aug. 3.
