Kentucky locked up another wide receiver from the transfer portal. Tru Edwards, a 6-foot-3 pass-catcher who most recently starred at Louisiana Tech, announced he will compete in his final season of college eligibility at Kentucky.

Like new Kentucky WR coach L’Damian Washington, Edwards is a Shreveport native. Alabama transfer Kendrick Law is also from Shreveport. They are two of the four free agent signings in the wide receiver room this offseason.

In 2024, Edwards led Louisiana Tech in receiving and was a First-Team All-Conference-USA selection. He led the league in receptions (84) and was second in receiving yards (986). Edwards caught six touchdown passes, and he would argue he should be credited with seven after this play was overturned in the Independence Bowl.

Edwards received interest from South Carolina, USC, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Texas A&M, Florida State, Washington, and Mississippi State once he entered the transfer portal. Free agency originally wasn’t a part of Edwards’ 2025 plans.

His college career was over until Diego Pavia filed a lawsuit. The wide receiver is one of the “Injunction Boys” who will receive an additional year of eligibility thanks to years spent in the JUCO ranks. Edwards began his college career at Navarro Community College in Texas where he was an NJCAA All-American. He spent one year at Hawaii before transferring to Louisiana Tech where he became a star in 2024.

Kentucky has dramatically flipped its wide receiver room this offseason. One big missing piece was at X-receiver, the position where Dane Key thrived over the last three seasons. Edwards can fill that role in 2025 and give Dejerrian Miller a year to grow into the position.
