Louisville AD Vince Tyra submits letter of resignation

Vince Tyra is out as Louisville’s athletic director, effective immediately.
On the same day University of Louisville President Dr. Neeli Bendapudi resigned and accepted a new offer to take over as President of Penn State University, the school received Tyra’s resignation letter, as well.
The letter is effective as of December 8th and has been accepted by the university, according to the Courier-Journal and WDRB.
An interim AD has not yet been named.
Tyra previously considered taking the Florida State athletic director job before reportedly turning down the offer. The University of Louisville board of trustees revised Tyra’s contract Wednesday, taking out his non-compete clause and 30-day termination notice. This means he will be free to take any job he wants with no future restrictions or penalties.

The 56-year-old took over as interim athletic director in 2017, replacing Tom Jurich after a number of scandals and violations within the university. Tyra was hired as the full-time AD in 2018, a position he has held ever since.
Now, not only is the University of Louisville in search of a new president, it is also in need of an athletic director.
At least they still have Scott Satterfield and Chris Mack — Tyra’s two biggest hires — right?
