Louisville extends scholarship offer to Reed Sheppard
Today is the first day coaches can directly contact 2023 recruits, and as expected, Reed Sheppard is a popular guy. The North Laurel star tweeted this morning that he’s received offers from College of Charleston, Arizona State (what up, Joel Justus!), and…Louisville.

Sheppard is the No. 2 player in the state behind Kaleb Glenn (Male) and visited Louisville unofficially on June 3, so the offer doesn’t come as a surprise; however, it does set the stage for a recruiting battle. Kentucky reached out to Sheppard, the son of UK greats Jeff Sheppard and Stacey Reed, last season and may have already contacted him today (if so, we haven’t heard), but Louisville offering him first thing this morning shows Chris Mack and the Cards are making him a priority.
“We contacted [Kentucky] earlier but we’re going to let everything play out,” Sheppard told KSR in April. “Kentucky is a big school for anybody in the state of Kentucky but I’m not going to say anything. We’re just going to let it play out and wherever God wants me to go is where I’ll end up going.”
Earlier this year, Sheppard received offers from Rick Pitino’s Iona, Texas A&M, and Iowa. He’s been turning heads on the travel circuit so far this summer, earning “Best Offensive Player” honors from 247 Sports’ Brandon Jenkins at two events in Texas over Memorial Day Weekend.
Reed Sheppard put on a show playing up against one of the top grassroots teams on the Adidas Circuit. He scored 18 points, forced five turnovers, and handed out four assists on Sunday afternoon. Playing in an offense that values ball movement, Sheppard was economical with his shot selection as he never forced the action. Defenders paid when they left him open and he proved that he was bouncier than the eye test would lead you to believe.
More Power 5 offers are coming. When will John Calipari get involved?
