Louisville Football Player Arrested After Late-Game Debacle

The Louisville football team unraveled in the fourth quarter of an improbable loss at Stanford. A player that played a key role in the Cardinals’ demise was in handcuffs 24 hours later.

The Cardinals were tied with the Cardinal after letting a 14-point lead slip away over the final seven minutes. Louisville took a shot at the end zone on fourth down with 11 seconds on the clock. By that play’s end, Stanford had four seconds to get 20 yards and kick a game-winning field goal.

Instead of taking a shot downfield, Stanford just threw it near the sideline to gain a yard. That’s when Tayon Holloway became a household name for all of the wrong reasons. The redshirt sophomore defensive back shoved a Stanford player and was penalized for a late hit. That put Stanford in field goal range. An offsides penalty made it a 52-yarder that Emmett Kenney buried to give the three-touchdown underdogs a victory over a Top 25 opponent.

Less than 48 hours later, Tayon Holloway is back in the headlines for all of the wrong reasons.

Holloway was arrested Sunday night on charges of felony strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault, according to court records.

The police report says Holloway attacked a woman when she tried to stop him from smoking marijuana. He allegedly threw the woman off the bed and punched her in the face with a closed fist, then put a pillow over her face for approximately 10 seconds when she tried fighting back.

Police arrived at the scene around 9 pm after a 911 hang-up, only about an hour after the team arrived back from the West Coast. Individuals at the apartment were initially uncooperative. Holloway pleaded not guilty in Jefferson County Circuit Court on Monday.

The University of Louisville said in a statement the school “is aware of the arrest of football student-athlete Tayon Holloway. As we gather more information, Tayon has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities.”
