Make that two starting defensive backs out for LSU on Saturday when the Tigers head to Lexington. Almost immediately after the school announced superstar cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. was out indefinitely, head coach Ed Orgeron confirmed starting safety Major Burns was also out.
Burns suffered a foot injury during LSU’s loss to Auburn and will miss “some time,” including the Tigers’ matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday.
Orgeron announced the news during the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday.
Burns, who transferred to LSU from Georgia back in May, has recorded 25 total tackles (16 solo), two pass deflections and one interception in five games this season. He played in six games as a true freshman at Georgia in 2020, recording five tackles on the year.
The 6-foot-2 safety was a consensus four-star, top-250 prospect out of high school in the class of 2020.

Burns’ injury news comes after Derek Stingley Jr. was declared out indefinitely after having a medical procedure done on his left foot this week. The standout cornerback earned First Team All-America and First Team All-SEC honors in 2020.
On Kentucky’s side of things, KSR reported Tuesday evening that starting wide receiver Josh Ali is expected to miss the next two games due to injury. Ali is currently second on the team in receptions (17), targets (23), and leads the team with a receiving success rate of 60.87 percent.
UK may be down a receiver, but LSU is missing arguably its two most important defensive backs on the team. Massive opportunity for Wan’Dale Robinson to put up big numbers on Saturday.
