Lynn Bowden is getting another shot in the NFL. Even though he missed the cut and for the initial 53-man roster, it only took one week for the New Orleans Saints to come to their senses.

Wednesday night the Saints announced they have promoted Lynn Bowden to the active roster for week two. There he joins former Kentucky teammate Landon Young.

Bowden’s NFL career has taken many unusual twists and turns. He was drafted by the Raiders as a running back following his successful stint as Kentucky’s Wildcat quarterback. When the move didn’t take right away, Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden shipped him off to Miami prior to the start of his rookie season. He appeared in 10 games as a wide receiver for the Dolphins, catching 28 passes for 211 yards. An injury sidelined him for the 2021 season. Upon his return, he bounced around practice squads before ultimately appearing in a game last fall for the New England Patriots.

Bill Belichick seemed to like Bowden and signed him to a futures contract. That did not last long, but he eventually found a soft landing spot in New Orleans. In two preseason games he caught three passes for 40 yards. It’s unclear how much he will be used in the offense, or if he’ll get a shot to make plays on special teams for the Saints.
