Lynn Bowden waived by the New England Patriots
One of the greatest Wildcats to ever wear Kentucky blue is looking for a new NFL home. Lynn Bowden was waived by the New England Patriots.
The Patriots added Bowden to the practice squad Sept. 1. The wide receiver was eventually elevated to the active roster, but only appeared in one game last fall. Bill Belichick liked Lynn Bowden enough to sign him to a futures contract, but not enough to keep him around for training camp.
Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock got Bowden’s career started on the wrong foot. Drafted by the Raiders in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, they liked what they saw from Bowden so much as UK’s Wildcat quarterback, they switched his position from wide receiver to running back. When he didn’t take to the position, particularly in pass protection, they traded him to the Dolphins before the start of the season.
As a rookie in 2020 he played in 10 games, earning four starts. Bowden caught 28 passes for 211 yards and had nine rushing attempts for 32 yards. A lingering hamstring injury prevented him playing at all in 2021.

It feels like Lynn Bowden is down to his last chance to make it in the NFL. He’s been re-committed this offseason, moving back to Lexington to work out with other former Kentucky Wildcats. Despite the bad news, he remains in good spirits.
KSR has heard there will be options for Lynn Bowden on the open market. A few AFC North teams have expressed interest in adding him as a free agent ahead of summer NFL training camps. Hopefully Bowden lands in a place where the offensive coordinator will be able to fully utilize his versatile skill set.
