Maddie Scherr's scheduled visit to Iowa has reportedly been canceled
It wasn’t too long ago when we learned that Maddie Scherr would be taking a visit to Iowa to potentially become Caitlin Clark‘s replacement.
However, on Wednesday night, the Hawkeyes picked up a big commitment from Villanova transfer guard Lucy Olsen. Olsen averaged 23.3 points per game last season, which was third in the nation behind Clark (31.6 PPG) and USC’s JuJu Watkins (27.1).
When Iowa received the commitment from Olsen, that meant that she would be taking up Iowa’s last available scholarship. Ultimately, head coach Lisa Bluder and her staff prioritized getting Olsen, and they got her. However, with no scholarships available, that meant that Scherr was sort of stuck. Why take a visit to a school you can’t go to anymore?
So, after the announcement of Olsen’s commitment, “Skim Milkey” reported that Scherr’s visit to Iowa which was previously scheduled for Thursday has been canceled. We now know that the 5-foot-11 guard won’t be a Hawkeye.

Scherr could still make a return to Kentucky if her heart desires. Additionally, when you look at Kenny Brooks’ current roster, she could easily slide in and be a key contributor. With Georgia Amoore in Lexington, Scherr wouldn’t run the point. However, we’ve seen her have some great moments and notable performances when scoring off the ball.
It’s been a rough two seasons for Scherr in Lexington thus far, as the ‘Cats have won just 24 total games in her two years here. However, with an upgraded roster and Kenny Brooks leading the charge, Kentucky could be looking at 24 wins this year alone.
Come on home, #22.
