Mamba Out's Thursday Morning Wakeup

Last night we witnessed one of the coolest moments in sports history as Kobe Bryant went out in the most Kobe Bryant way possible. It couldn't have played out better if it were scripted: He went for 60 points for the sixth time in his career; he led an amazing comeback for the Lakers' 17th win of the season; he took more shots than any player in a single game in 33 years; and his last play of the game, the last play of his career, was an assist. You can't draw it up better than that. Mamba out.   Tyler Ulis will be a guest on KSR today. We have a very special edition of Kentucky Sports Radio radio this morning with Tyler Ulis in studio for an entire hour. Our Point God will be on at 11 am to discuss his two seasons at Kentucky and what he expects in the next stage of his life. Definitely tune in. Mark Stoops will be available after today's practice. Stoops had a last-minute cancellation following Tuesday's practice but he will be available today to chat with the media. It'll be interesting to hear his comments about the week after his disappointment in Saturday's scrimmage. The team will practice again tomorrow, then the Spring Game, then goodbye football until fall. Marques Bolden did not announce yesterday. Which is good for Kentucky. However, he did have this to say to USA Today from the Jordan Brand Classic:
“I see myself fitting in perfectly with both teams. I try not to look at the other guys coming in. There’s going to be competition everywhere. You’re not going to be the only guy there. I know I’m going to get better wherever I go, but the way Kentucky develops their guys is unbelievable and then the way Duke guys come out and are so successful. They’re both positives.”
The Cats are still in it. Tubby Smith is going to Memphis. According to several reports, Tubby Smith is all set to become the new head coach at Memphis. This makes it even more unlikely he'll get one last game in Rupp Arena for a jersey retirement ceremony, but we can still hope for a home-and-home between the two schools. Can you imagine Cal going back there? Sign us up for that. Apparently Steph Curry and the Warriors did something amazing last night. So I hear. I was too busy watching Kobe. By the way, how about Trey Lyles being in there for Kobe's magical finale? He was trying so hard to not fanboy and I think I caught a smile when Kobe dropped one in his eye. Trey had this to say before the game: One more Kobe note: How 'bout him retiring with 60, Derek Jeter retiring with a walk-off, and Peyton Manning retiring with a Super Bowl? Three greats going out on top. Okay, that's enough Kobe talk for the day. Franklin out.
