The fun continued into Mark Pope’s postgame radio interview after Kentucky‘s win over South Carolina on Saturday. With another eager crowd awaiting Pope’s arrival, he walked onto Cawood’s Court after his press conference, carrying a new t-shirt gun.
Somehow, Pope’s first shot missed its massive target. The errant tee landed on the upper deck where no one was sitting.
After his next round hit its mark, Pope sat down with Tom Leach for his radio interview. He opened the conversation, saying, “Well, that was fun. Wow. I love the gun, guys. That was awesome.”
Then, a special guest joined Pope to start the show.
New defensive coordinator, Heidi
Kentucky Children’s Hospital’s Kid of the Game, Heidi, sat beside Pope during Pope’s postgame comments to the crowd and everyone listening at home.

“First I want to introduce Miss Heidi,” Pope said. “So, Heidi is eight years old, and she came to practice yesterday, and she gave the guys the inspiration to come actually play on the defensive side of the ball. So can we give it up to Heidi for bringing the guys about.”
As the crowd cheered Miss Heidi, Pope gave her his headset so she could address the crowd and take credit for her defensive adjustments. “I loved it,” she said. “Go Cats!”
Great job, Heidi. Maybe there is a full-time place for her on staff?
