There’s no putting a lid on Mark Pope’s enthusiasm, not even in the grocery store.

Earlier today, UK Sports Network released a two-minute video in which Pope walks around Kroger, an official partner of UK Athletics, talking about his favorite items. These types of videos don’t normally stop my social media scroll, but leave it to Pope to infuse even the most boring assignment with boundless energy.

The ad starts with Pope standing outside the Bryan Station Kroger — his Kroger! Once inside, he shows off his “Pope’s Picks.” After picking up some popcorn, he raves about “Miss Lee Anne’s famous lasagna,” one of the secret ingredients of which is the Kroger brand Private Selection marinara sauce (no offense, Kroger, but I’m skeptical). For dessert, he zeroes in on some sea salt caramels and chocolate truffles.

“I’ve become a master of choreographing my path through Kroger so I get all the things that I need. I always end at the same spot,” he says stopping at the candy. “I love them. So much.”

Pope even jumps behind the deli counter to slice some meat:

Before leaving, Pope gets on the intercom at the register and does a CATS chant as cashiers and customers watch and film on their phones. It’s just good old-fashioned fun.

Kentucky Women’s Basketball coach Kenny Brooks also did an ad for Kroger (his is the one at Brannon Crossing). It doesn’t have quite the same pizzazz as Pope’s but we do learn that one of his favorite quick snacks is Black Forest ham with mustard and provolone. “It just reeks summertime.” He also stocks his work bag with breakfast bars for when he’s on the road recruiting. The final “Brooks Buy”? Tortilla chips and salsa — the spicier the better.

You didn’t think they’d leave Mark Stoops out, did you? Stoops’ ad, filmed at the Beaumont Kroger, includes him signing autographs. Among “Stoops’ Selections”: hummus, crackers, and a snack mix he puts on his bar. “Everything it takes to wash down a good cocktail with it,” Stoops says.
