Mark Pope, Kentucky MBB staff reveal their picks for 2025 Kentucky Derby

We’re only a few more hours away from the 151st Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs.
And if you’re someone who is still unsure of which horse you’ll be placing a wager on for this year’s Kentucky Derby, perhaps Mark Pope can sway your decision. The Kentucky men’s basketball social team posted Derby picks from all six members of the coaching staff. Pope is going with Render Judgement (16-1 odds) as his winner, a horse that is trained by UK fan Kenny McPeek (who recently threw the Ls down next to Pat Kelsey) and is partially owned by the late Toby Keith.
Pope’s right-hand man, Alvin Brooks III, is going with the betting favorite, Journalism (4-1), while Cody Fueger is going with the biggest longshot amongst his peers, Publisher (30-1). Below are the rest of the staff’s picks. Post time is set for 7:02 p.m. ET.
