Mark Pope provides injury update on Lamont Butler ahead of Louisville game

After sitting out the last two games, Lamont Butler‘s status for Saturday’s matchup against Louisville remains up in the air
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope did not say whether or not Butler will play against the Cardinals during his Friday afternoon press conference. The fifth-year guard has been out due to an ankle injury.
“Lamont was on the court a little yesterday,” Pope said. “He didn’t do anything with us but he was on the court a little bit yesterday and we’ll kind of see how it goes today. We’ll try to roll him out there. I’d love to have him. He really helps us. I just don’t know if he’s going to be quite ready.”

Butler is currently second on the team in scoring at 12.9 points per outing. He also chips in 3.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 22.5 minutes per game as the Wildcats’ starting point guard. He’s shooting 55.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from deep. Kentucky will still be favored to beat Louisville without him in the event he does not play, but being down two starting-caliber lead guards (Kerr Kriisa is also out) is never an ideal situation.
Tipoff against Louisville is set for 5:15 p.m. EST on Saturday afternoon inside of Rupp Arena on ESPN.
