Mark Pope provides new injury update on Kerr Kriisa

When will Kerr Kriisa return for the Kentucky Wildcats? Mark Pope provided an update on his call-in radio show Monday evening, but it may not have been the news fans were hoping to hear.

Out since December 7 after suffering a broken foot in the win over Gonzaga in Seattle, Pope said Kriisa is still a ‘few weeks’ away from the point in his recovery that will let the staff know just how quickly he’ll be able to return to game action — a few weeks from potentially being a few weeks away, if you will.

And considering we’re just seven weeks away from the SEC Tournament, that window is closing more and more by the day as the health updates grow more and more vague. Pope didn’t rule out a return this season, but he also didn’t rule out a ‘more complicated recovery’ that could, in turn, lead to an extended absence.

“Kerr is getting to that point where — his recovery has been completely predictable and scripted,” Pope said. “We’re going to know more in the next few weeks about whether this is going to kind of turn the corner and be really quick on the quicker side or if this is going to be a more complicated recovery. We’re kind of moving into that window where we’re going to get some more information on his recovery.”

Pope said last week Kriisa was ‘making progress’ on a return and is ‘out of the boot for at least little segments of the day,’ but added that ‘we still don’t really have a timeframe.’

Prior to his injury in the Gonzaga win, Kriisa was averaging 4.4 points, 3.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 17.3 minutes per contest across nine games.
