Mark Stoops is Candid in Post-Spring Practice Conversation

Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops has been hesitant to lump too much praise on individuals following spring practices. Today, members of the media got to watch all of the action. We came with specifics and he was happy to answer.
The most notable development was on the offensive line. That should be the case after the Cats brought in five new players from the transfer portal. The interior — guard, center, guard — really popped during the two-hour practice. Mark Stoops believes it can be a strength for this Kentucky football team.
“We have some returning guys and we have some additions. That’s always good. That was one thing from last year, we had some interior guys that were good players and have some snaps, have some experience,” Stoops said.
“It’s good to bring those guys back and build out from there. You can see the additions from tackle where we’re in better position. Malachi (Wood) is a year older and doing really well. I feel much better about it.”
Standout Skill Players
Jason Patterson flew under BBN’s offseason radar after the talented running back only played in three games before he suffered a season-ending injury. No. 26 popped as a runner between the tackles and a pass-catcher during today’s practice.

“I’ve seen him take some steps, even in the last two or three practices,” said the Kentucky head coach. “It’s good to see him back out here, see him healthy, getting the reps. I like seeing him out here because he’s a guy that can be an every-down back. He’s doing some good things.”
Kendrick Law was one of the more prolific transfer portal additions. On the first play of team period, the former Alabama wide receiver got loose for a huge gain. He can switch to the outside and let Ja’Mori Maclin play inside, but this coaching staff prefers to see Maclin streaking down the field, while Law makes tough, contested catches.
“Kendrick is a very strong young man. He’s explosive, he’s strong, so when we get the ball to him in a play-action like that, he can create.”
