Mark Stoops Confirms Chip Trayanum will miss the South Carolina game
Injury reports will be a little different this year. Despite the changes coming this week, Mark Stoops was kind enough to share the latest on an injured Kentucky running back.
Chip Trayanum suffered a broken hand during preseason practice. On tonight’s call-in show, Stoops confirmed Chip will not be available for the game against South Carolina. Trayanum did not play in week one and has not yet appeared on a Kentucky depth chart.
Sources indicated to KSR in the preseason that returning in time to play South Carolina would be a stretch, but there’s a chance he could return in time for the matchup with the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
Trayanum transferred to Kentucky after two seasons at Ohio State. The Akron native began his collegiate career at Arizona State. After two seasons in the desert, he returned closer to home to play linebacker. When the Buckeyes suffered a rash of injuries at running back, he moved back to his original position. Primarily a between-the-tackles option for Ohio State, he totaled 373 yards and three touchdowns last fall, including the game-winning score on the final play of the game at Notre Dame Stadium.

This year Monday night injury reports will be fewer and farther in-between. That’s because for the first time, there are official injury reports mandated by the SEC. They will mirror the availability reports we see at the NFL level, sharing whether a player is probable, questionable, or out. The injury reports will be unveiled on Wednesdays before SEC games and a final report will be shared 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
Kentucky ran for 148 yards on 24 carries without Trayanum last Saturday. The Wildcats spread the wealth to multiple players. Demie Sumo-Karngbaye received the most touches with eight. Three Kentucky wide receivers combined for five carries, the same amount that Brock Vandagriff had in the win over Southern Miss that was cut short by severe weather.
