Stoops confirms Dekel Crowdus avoided major injury, expected back in coming weeks

Mark Stoops has confirmed that Kentucky freshman receiver Dekel Crowdus will be back on the practice field in the coming weeks.

Following KSR’s report on Friday indicating the four-star newcomer had avoided a serious knee injury and will not need surgery, Stoops announced Saturday that Crowdus’ test results revealed a strain with no torn ligaments.

As a result, the 5-foot-10 freshman is expected to miss “a couple weeks,” a timeline that could put him back in the lineup in time for Kentucky’s season-opener against Louisiana Monroe on September 4.

Crowdus came to Kentucky as a four-star recruit out of Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington, KY. He originally signed with UK over offers from Auburn, Baylor, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas, among others.
