Mark Stoops Updates Status of DeAndre Square, Jacquez Jones ahead of Vanderbilt game
Mark Stoops met with the media one final time before the Wildcats host Vanderbilt Saturday at Kroger Field. Kentucky’s head coach shared an update on the status of the defense’s injured elder statesmen, DeAndre Square and Jacquez Jones.
Square missed the game at Missouri after suffering a lower leg injury at Tennessee. Even though Stoops was initially optimistic the linebacker could return to action this weekend, it’s now unlikely he will suit up against the Commodores.
“He gave it a go. He’s trying, but I’d say (Square is) highly questionable,” Stoops said.
Square’s running mate and fellow super senior inside, Jacquez Jones, has been absent from the lineup since the first week of September. Stoops is unsure if and when Jones will be able to return to the field this season.

“I’m just not sure,” he searched for words. “Still no update.”
Jones and Square are each stuck on 299 career tackles, one away from surpassing the illustrious 300 milestone.
In addition to the injury updates, Stoops discussed the Wildcats’ preparation for Vanderbilt, including the cold weather that’s coming to town this weekend. He also talked about what the Wildcats are doing to prepare for the start of the Early Signing Period, now less than six weeks away.
