Mark Stoops’ press conference after Kentucky’s 48-20 loss to Florida included all the comments you’d expect from Stoops after a performance like that, but the most succinct came about a minute in.

“Pretty good butt-whooping there.”

Stoops spoke with reporters for about ten minutes following his team’s disappointing showing, which comes on the heels of last week’s loss to Vanderbilt. Stoops gave plenty of credit to Florida, who he said was the more physical team, and expressed dismay at his defense’s performance, particularly the secondary. As for the offense, which once struggled, Stoops said the Cats will stay the course and stood behind Bush Hamdan and Brock Vandagriff.

“I have a lot of confidence in Bush. He’s been handed a — you know, it’s tough. Not going to point any fingers. Put it on me.”

Stoops also talked about the toll injuries are taking on his team, Chip Trayanum’s debut, and Barion Brown’s kickoff return for a touchdown, which set an SEC record. The latter was one of the lone highlights of a very long night.

“It’s a tough league. It’s rough. Believe me, I’m very disappointed but not defeated. We will get back to work. It’s a long, long night. These night games are absolutely brutal. So, we’ll try to get a little bit of rest on the plane and get back to work tomorrow and we’ll bounce back.”
