WATCH: Mark Stoops' Press Conference after Kentucky's loss to Vanderbilt
No one is happy after Kentucky’s 20-13 loss to Vanderbilt, including Mark Stoops. Stoops did not mince words in his postgame press conference, calling out his team’s lack of discipline and litany of penalties (12 for 106 yards) vs. the Commodores, which dropped Kentucky’s record to 3-3 on the season. He said it reminded him of another game this season, the 31-6 loss to South Carolina.
“I understand what winning football looks like and I know when it doesn’t and we certainly didn’t do that today. I’m very disappointed in myself and our staff for not getting the team ready, and I have to do a better job. I could promise you it wasn’t for a lack of effort.”
Kentucky is now 2-10 in its last 12 SEC home games, a stat that Stoops said he mentioned to his players this week. Kroger Field was at a fever pitch for the late-night kick vs. the Dores, who had just upset No. 1 Alabama. Instead of harnessing the crowd’s energy, the Cats psyched themselves out and lost their composure, which left Stoops flummoxed.

“Obviously, I didn’t do a good enough job, but I tried addressing that and addressing all of it about really focusing and being disciplined. Like I said, emotion doesn’t win you games; disciplined execution wins you games.”
