With bowl participants across the country dropping like flies due to COVID-19 issues within their respective programs, Kentucky remains on track to play in the Citrus Bowl.

Kentucky is in a good spot

After arriving in Orlando on Sunday, UK conducted its first practice of the week on Monday with no illness-related setbacks. As things stand today, Mark Stoops says Kentucky is in a good spot leading up to Saturday’s game.

“We are — knock on wood — (in a good spot) at this point in time,” Stoops said Monday. “You never know. We’re doing the best we can to adhere to the protocols we have in place and trying to live with it as best we can.”

What protocols do they have in place down in Orlando?

“Just making sure we’re wearing masks and everybody is sanitizing, things like that,” Wan’Dale Robinson said. “Our staff does a great job making sure we’re safe and away from everybody for chances like that.”

Not concerned about what-ifs, only Iowa

Through the postponements and cancellations we’re seeing across all sports, the Wildcats aren’t worried about what-ifs. They’re only concerned about preparing for the Iowa Hawkeyes and taking home another Citrus Bowl trophy.

“It was good to get back out here with the guys, we were on a little break for a little bit,” Robinson said. “Just good to get back moving and be around the guys.”

“It’s really good to get back to Florida, get back on the practice field for the first time today,” Stoops added. “It feels great, beautiful weather. It was a good Monday for us. We need to tighten some things up, but that’s to be expected after a few days off. Got down here a little bit rusty, a little bit off with some of our timing.

“The guys were in really good spirits and practiced hard; we’re excited to be down here and ready to go.”

Kentucky will take on Iowa in the Citrus Bowl on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The game will be televised live on ABC and broadcast live on ESPN Radio and the UK Sports Network.
