Mark Stoops trends and fans hit the exits during embarrassing loss to South Carolina
Of all the outcomes today, I don’t think many of us expected this one. South Carolina leads Kentucky 31-6 with a few minutes to go in the fourth quarter and it’s increasingly clear that this loss will go down as one of the worst in the Mark Stoops era.
Kentucky entered the game as a 9.5-point favorite but looks like a shell of the team that beat Southern Miss a week ago. The Cats are unable to get any momentum going on offense or defense, shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and poor play, especially on the offensive line. The fans at Kroger Field are making their feelings known.
Fans were restless in the third quarter when penalties mounted; when South Carolina took a 24-6 lead off a Rahiem Sanders touchdown at the end of the third quarter, the boos began. When the Gamecocks intercepted a Brock Vandagriff pass and returned it for a touchdown just seconds later, BBN hit the exits. Mark Stoops was the No. 2 trend in the United States on Twitter when frustrations peaked.
The stands are now mostly empty with a few minutes to play. Gavin Wimsatt has replaced Brock Vandagriff at quarterback. Kentucky may not make it to 200 yards of total offense and currently has six pass completions for 44 yards. Woof.

This was a must-win game. Credit to South Carolina, which is clearly better than the team that needed some breaks to beat Old Dominion in the season, but there is plenty of blame to go around for an embarrassing performance from the Cats.
