Marquis Teague becomes 5th player added to Kentucky's TBT alumni team
Another piece has been added to Kentucky’s alumni team for this summer’s The Basketball Tournament. Former Wildcat guard Marquis Teague has joined the La Familia roster, it was announced on Wednesday.
Teague was the starting point guard as a freshman on Kentucky’s 2012 national championship team. He averaged 10 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game for the ‘Cats during his lone season before getting selected in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft.
Over a decade later, he’ll once again suit up to play in Rupp Arena.
“BBN, what’s up family?” Teague said. “Happy to be coming back to Lex finally, it’s been a while, long time coming. Be down there playing the TBT with the La Familia group. Get back with some of my old guys, some of my alum. Should be fun… It’s gonna be a great time, man. Come out and support. Let’s fill Rupp up man, let’s get it back to those good feels we had in 2012, man. Let’s go.”
Teague joins a group of former Kentucky players that already includes Willie Cauley-Stein (2012-15) Doron Lamb (2010-12), Eric Bledsoe (2009-10), and Reid Travis (2018-19). The rest of the roster will be announced over the coming months. Twany Beckham, who played for UK from 2011-13, will serve as the team’s general manager.
After getting scooped up by the Chicago Bulls with the 29th overall pick in the 2012 draft, Teague’s NBA career never fully took off. However, he spent a couple of seasons in Chicago before making stops with the Brooklyn Nets and Memphis Grizzlies over the following years, including a couple of stints in the G League/D-League.
Since 2021, Teague has played basketball overseas in England and Greece. Most recently, he was a member of Kolossos Rodou B.C. in Greece.

Looking ahead to TBT this summer, eight regional sites will host the 64 teams in this year’s bracket. For the fifth straight summer, a winner-takes-all grand prize of $1 million will go to the championship team. Lexington hosted a regional site back in 2019 at Frederick Douglass High School, but this will be the first time it’s held at Rupp Arena (July 19-24).
Since TBT began in 2014, it has awarded more than $13M in prize money and has been viewed in more than 180 countries around the world. Alumni teams have won TBT’s championship in four of the past five summers, with teams representing Ohio State, Marquette, Syracuse, and the University of Buffalo taking home the $1M prize between 2019-2022.
TBT is also the home of the Elam Ending, the alternate ending to games where teams play to a target score.
