Marshall LB Landyn Watson will Transfer to Kentucky
After the roster made way for 19 transfer portal departures, Kentucky football is welcoming a transfer portal arrival. Marshall LB Landyn Watson is making the move to Lexington to join the Wildcats, announcing his commitment on Saturday night.
He has one year of eligibility remaining. Watson has logged 625 career snaps and is playing at his third and final school. He started his career at TCU.
Hailing from the Austin, Texas metro area, Watson was a three-star recruit in the class of 2021. He initially committed to LSU, but that didn’t stick. A push by Gary Patterson put Watson in TCU purple. Watson remained in Fort Worth when Sonny Dykes took over and took the Horned Frogs to the CFB Playoff National Championship Game, but he never played a snap for TCU.
Watson transferred to Marshall and did not find immediate success. He locked in a starter’s spot for the 2024 season and tallied 69 tackles, four tackles for loss, an interception, and a forced fumble. He helped the Thundering Herd finish 10-3 and win the Sun Belt Conference before head coach Charles Huff left Huntington to rebuild the Southern Miss program.

A 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker, he was the tweener’s transition from edge to off the ball and into the middle of the defense was a success. Now he’s preparing to fill a position of need. D’Eryk Jackson and Jamon Dumas-Johnson were the heart and soul of the Wildcats’ defense. Kentucky has a bunch of talented linebackers on the depth chart, but they lack experience. Watson is injecting some much-needed experience at the position for the 2025 campaign.
