Marshawn Lloyd Latest South Carolina Impact Player to Enter Transfer Portal
Shane Beamer’s culture can’t keep anyone that’s any good around in Columbia. The sunglass-toting Mayo King lost his maligned offensive coordinator and now his top skill players don’t want to hang around any longer. Monday afternoon RB Marshawn Lloyd became the latest South Carolina Gamecock to enter the transfer portal.
First reported by On3’s Matt Zenitz, Lloyd was South Carolina’s leading rusher in 2022. Despite missing three games to injury, he tallied 573 yards and nine touchdowns on 111 carries. Lloyd only had one performance better than his 110-yard game against Kentucky in October.
In 2020 Marshawn Lloyd was a huge recruiting win for South Carolina. A five-star prospect according to Rivals, the running back was a Consensus Top 50 player overall. He’s not the only Blue Chip recruit from 2020 leaving South Carolina.
Today Jaheim Bell revealed he will transfer to Florida State. A former top 15 tight end and four-star prospect, the versatile athlete was actually South Carolina’s second-leading rusher. He also caught 25 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns. The Gamecocks’ inability to get arguably their best weapon the ball was a point of contention between South Carolina fans and Marcus Satterfield, the offensive coordinator who left for Nebraska this offseason.

One other tight end did something you don’t see often. Austin Stogner spent three seasons at Oklahoma, followed Spencer Rattler to South Carolina for one season, then decided he made a mistake and returned to Oklahoma as a grad transfer. His production mirrored Bell’s, catching 20 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown.
Shane Beamer pushed all of his chips in and made some late season magic. His upsets of Tennessee and Clemson got him an 8-win season and bought him plenty of time and good will. It’d be a real shame if it eroded away so quickly into the transfer portal, a real shame.
