Following a successful high school run at the well-known DeMatha Catholic, Rice began his college career at Virginia Tech. However, injuries limited him to just eight games played as a true freshman in 2022-23. He then redshirted the entirety of the 2023-24 season before transferring home to Maryland. One of the schools he’s hearing from, Villanova, recently hired Kevin Willard, who coached the Terrapins since 2022.
Rice finished the 2024-25 season with six games of 20 or more points. His season-high was a 28-point outing in the non-conference against Mount St. Mary’s — a team that made the NCAA Tournament. Rice also dropped 26 points against Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament and 23 against Indiana during the regular season. Across Maryland’s three NCAA Tournament games, he averaged 12.3 points per contest.
