Masai Russell has been named semifinalist for The Bowerman

Kentucky track & field hurdler Masai Russell has been named a semifinalist for The Bowerman. The yearly award is given out as college track & field’s biggest individual honor. Kentucky could have a repeat winner in 2023.
Last year, Abby Steiner brought home the hardware. Russell will be looking to create a Kentucky repeat this season.

The veteran from Maryland has set college records in hurdle events both indoors and outdoors. At the NCAA D1 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Russell competed in seven events with runner-up finishes in the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles. The sprinter owns the collegiate-best time in 60 hurdles (7.75) and has clocked four of the best eight times in collegiate history.
The finalists for The Bowerman will be named on June 26. Masai Russell is now the eighth Kentucky female track & field athlete to make a watch list for the award since its inception in 2009. Russell was named the 2023 Southeast Region Outdoor Women’s Runner of the Year last week.
