Kentucky OL target Mason Short commits to Georgia
One of the first big tasks for new Kentucky offensive line coach Eric Wolford was to backfill the position room with some young talent. The Wildcats could address the position in the upcoming spring transfer portal window, but the Wildcats need some young talent on the offensive line. Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier junior Tucker Kattus became the program’s first commit. But a big target came off the board on Friday morning.
Evans (Ga.) High junior Mason Short is a top-250 recruit in the class of 2025. The interior offensive line prospect committed to Alabama last April but backed off that pledge in January once Nick Saban retired. The four-star prospect re-opened his recruitment, and Wolford got Kentucky in the ballpark but the expected ended up becoming the final result.
Mason Short decided to stay in-state and committed to Georgia on Friday over finalists Clemson, Kentucky, and Ohio State.
“You’re never going to go wrong with Georgia,” Mason Short told On3. “It’s a program that’s always going to produce guys for the NFL and they have a history of development… Coach Stacy Searels is probably one of the best offensive line coaches in the country. What attracted me to the program and coach Searels was his relationships with his guys and how they feed off of him and his coaching and his teaching, as well as their interactions on and off the field with each other.”
“It’s the same with coach Kirby Smart and his message to his players. He says that you can’t hide from the smoke at Georgia. That’s true at a lot of places, but at Georgia, it’s really true.”

That takes a top target off the board of Kentucky, but Wolford has been busy getting other targets on campus. The Wildcats hosted three offensive line targets for unofficial visits on Thursday and have multiple official visits locked in for June.
