Kentucky's women's basketball coach is recovering from brain surgery. Matthew Mitchell's wife, Jenna, revealed in a Facebook post that her husband recently went under the knife at UK Hospital after blood was discovered on his brain. "About four months ago he fell and suffered a concussion, was not well for a couple of weeks, then great after that," she shared. "Then about two weeks went to the hospital with a faint but persistent headache and they discovered he had blood on the brain and he need surgery (subdural hematoma). All went well and he is on the mend!" A scary and surreal situation, Mitchell was just on Kentucky Sports Radio hosting his annual show two weeks ago. Thankfully, all is now well with the 49-year-old coach. You can read the entire statement Jenna Ramsey Mitchell shared online below. Mitchell has been the Kentucky women's head basketball coach since 2007. In his 14 years leading the program, the team has been to nine NCAA Tournaments, advancing as far as the Elite Eight three times. He was named SEC Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2012.
