WATCH: Matt Jones recaps Kentucky's monster road win over Tennessee
Things can change quickly in college basketball. Kentucky did not claim an SEC regular-season title in 2024, but John Calipari’s program sent the rest of the league a message in the final three weeks of the season. The Cats are peaking and ready for a run in March.
That message was solidified on Saturday afternoon on Rocky Top when Kentucky built a 14-point lead with nine minutes remaining and held on for a 85-81 Quad 1 road win over SEC champion Tennessee. The victory was a thrilling one both for the team and fan base.
KSR’s Matt Jones jumped on the postgame show to provide some thoughts on Kentucky’s big win.
“It was a big win,” Jones said. “Not just winning at Tennessee, but for seeding purposes. You go to the SEC Tournament, Kentucky will now be a 2-seed. They’ll play Friday night at 7:00 against the winner of Texas A&M and Ole Miss. You can’t ask for a better draw than that, right?”
“It’s just a huge win for Kentucky. It’s a culmination. They’ve won 7 of the last 8. Could easily be eight in a row. I think they are now pretty solidly a 3-seed in the NCAA Tournament.”
