Matthew McConaughey met with Cutter Boley after Kentucky's loss to Texas
Cutter Boley flashed plenty of potential in spite of Kentucky’s 31-14 road loss to No. 3 Texas on Saturday. Enough so that movie star Matthew McConaughey had to meet the true freshmen afterward to give him some praise.
KSR’s Nick Roush reported last night that McConaughey met up with Boley postgame on the way back to Kentucky’s locker room. The two chatted for a second and hugged. Adding to that, someone familiar with the interaction informed me that McConaughey, who graduated from Texas in 1993 and was on the sidelines for this game, told Boley he was “going to be special”.
Boley replaced Brock Vandagriff as Kentucky’s quarterback in the second half against the Longhorns. The Bluegrass native passed for 160 yards on 10-18 passing with one interception against a tough Texas defense. His first pass of the game was a 43-yard bomb down the sideline to Barion Brown.
With the McConaughey vote of confidence, will we see Boley start in Kentucky’s regular-season finale against Louisville at home next weekend? It will certainly be a major topic of discussion throughout the week until head coach Mark Stoops announces one way or the other.

Boley has now appeared in three games this season for Kentucky. He saw a handful of snaps late in Kentucky’s blowout road loss to Florida back in October but was given a real opportunity for the first time last week against Murray State. The former four-star recruit went 10-14 for 130 yards in the second half against the Racers, throwing a pair of touchdowns without an interception. He can still play against Louisville without having to forfeit his redshirt.
“We really believe we have something special moving forward,” Boley said following the loss to Texas. “We think we can do something at UK that’s never been done before and I feel like every guy in the locker room believes that and we’re going to keep taking the next steps to be that team we want to be.”
That sounds like a guy eager to build off his performance.
