Max Duffy selected by Pittsburgh Maulers in USFL supplemental draft
After a year off from football, KSR’s own Max Duffy has found a new home. On Thursday night, the star punter was given a professional opportunity.
In the ninth round of the USFL supplemental draft, the Pittsburgh Maulers selected the former Ray Guy Award winner with the No. 71 pick overall. Pin It Deep will now be spending the spring playing football in a new professional league.
Despite being the United States Football League (USFL) team in Pittsburgh, the startup league will host all of its games in its inaugural season in Birmingham. The first game is on the calendar for April 16.
The league will have eight teams, and all games in 2022 will take place at Legion Field and Protective Stadium in Birmingham. The Maulers are being led by long-time NFL staffer Kirby Wilson in the franchise’s first season. In the organization, Duffy will be joined by former LSU offensive guard Vidal Alexander and Michigan defensive end Carlo Kemp.
Pittsburgh opens the season on Sunday, April 17th when the Maulers lock horns with the Tampa Bay Bandits. The 10-game season runs through June.

Kentucky in the USFL
Max Duffy won’t be the only former Wildcat participating in the new league. Former placekicker Austin MacGinnis will be on the New Orleans Breakers after being selected in the first USFL draft back in April.
Elsewhere, defensive end T.J. Carter (Michigan Panthers) and Jeff Badet (New Orleans Breakers) will also be participating in the league.
Games will be broadcast throughout the spring on FOX, USA, NBC, USA Network, and FS1 as millions of dollars have been invested into the USFL as the league looks to become a successful developmental league.
Hopefully, this experiment goes better than previous startups Alliance of American Football and the XFL.
