The best part of his announcement? Thirty minutes prior he let Minnesota and Purdue fans get their hopes up by posting this to his Instagram story.
Hailing from the Detroit suburb of West Bloomfield, he’s the first player from the Great Lakes State to join UK’s 2021 recruiting class. Defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale has now successfully added seven players from the state of Michigan over the last four recruiting cycles.
Hairston may not be the last Michigan native to join this class. Shortly after the cornerback revealed his seven finalists, four-star Oak Park lineman Rayshaun Benny Tweeted to Hairston, “Where we going?” Kentucky was the only common school on their lists of finalists.

A low three-star recruit to start the spring season, Hairston began receiving significantly more attention on the recruiting trail shortly after he recorded a 4.5 40-yard dash at an Under Armour camp. Kansas was long considered his leader, but once he received a scholarship offer from the Wildcats, Hairston said, “Kentucky has been a dream school of mine since I was young, this is huge.” Now his dream is becoming a reality.
A 6-foot-1, 175-pound cornerback, the three-star recruit is ranked by 247 Sports as the No. 38 player in the state of Michigan. In his junior season Hairston recorded two interceptions and ten pass break-ups. See those plays and more in his 2019 season highlight reel.
Kentucky’s 2021 football recruiting class now has 15 commitments, three defensive backs and is ranked No. 46 overall by 247 Sports Composite.
