May 7 named Dale and Wan'Dale Robinson Day in Frankfort
It may be Derby Day for most in Kentucky, but in Frankfort, it’s Dale and Wan’Dale Robinson Day.
Following superstar high school and college football careers, Wan’Dale Robinson was just drafted No. 43 overall in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. His father, Dale, is an author, mentor, professional speaker, and owner of the GURU Fitness franchise. More importantly, Dale’s success comes after spending years in federal prison on drug charges.
The father’s story is one of redemption, while the son’s highlights the benefits of choosing your own path to success. Both are wildly inspirational.
Now, the father-son duo is being rewarded in their hometown, with Franklin County and the city of Frankfort proclaiming May 7, 2022 Dale and Wan’Dale Robinson Day.
“This crazy… who would’ve thought we’d be here,” Wan’Dale said, sharing a photo of the joint proclamation.

“Love you bud! We just getting started. Now we know what’s possible. Anything!!!! Dale and Wan’Dale Robinson Day! May 7th! Let’s Goooooo!” Dale responded.
The entire proclamation can be found below:
To Whom These Presents Shall Come:
Whereas, Franklin County native, Dale Robinson, is a living example of restoration and redemption; and
Whereas, Dale Robinson moved beyond his own involvement in the justice system to make a positive impact in his community and state, helping other justice-involved families; and
Whereas, Mr. Robinson, a graduate of Franklin County High School, is an author, mentor, professional speaker, and owner of the GURU Fitness franchise; and
Whereas, Dale Robinson co-founded the Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation, a Franklin County non-profit with the mission to provide mentorship and resources to children and families impacted by incarceration; and
Whereas, Wan’Dale Robinson, a Western Hills High School graduate and 2018 Mr. Kentucky Football awardee, holds the record for most receiving yards and receptions for the University of Kentucky; and
Whereas, Wan’Dale Robinson was drafted (with the 43rd pick) of the 2022 NFL Draft by the New York Giants; and
Whereas, Wan’Dale Robinson provides an example to all Franklin County and Kentucky youth that being impacted by incarceration does not predetermine your future; and
Whereas, Wan’Dale Robinson shows that the cycle of generational incarceration can be broken with a Pathway of Hope and a vision of a successful future;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Huston Wells, Franklin County Judge/Executive, do hereby proclaim the 7th Day of May 2022 as:
“DALE AND WAN’DALE ROBINSON DAY”
A high school phenom in Frankfort, Robinson earned Kentucky Mr. Football honors in 2018 after gaining 8,582 yards from scrimmage and scoring 118 offensive touchdowns at Western Hills High School. After a two-year stint at Nebraska, Robinson transferred to Kentucky, where he set two new single-season receiving records by catching 104 passes for 1,334 yards while finding the end zone seven times.
Now, the Kentucky standout is taking his talents to the NFL, selected by the New York Giants in last week’s NFL Draft.
First, though, he gets to celebrate his own day at home with his dad.
